8 Flex: tech

We achieve flex by manipulating the orientation of the carbon fiber. Your shaft bends when you need it to, but retains its firmness for maximum control. Conventional shafts that tout flex are often using fiberglass, a cheaper, less durable material, to increase the bendability. Don’t sacrifice your game, choose Epoch.

What is the right shaft for your game? 

Epoch’s Flex iQ System is designed to help you cut through all the noise and choose a shaft that is right for your game.   Do you prefer more whip and hold? Then a softer Flex shaft is right for you.   Looking for a stiff shaft for maximum power transfer? Then choose a stiff Dragonfly for your game. Looking for the best of both worlds, then a Flex iQ 5 is for you.

Our Advanced Carbon Layering (A.C.L.) is what separates Epoch shafts from conventional composite shafts.  By layering low F.A.W., uni-directional carbon fiber pre-preg in a specific manner we can control several aspects of the shaft's performance, including flex, durability, weight and release point.

 Hand-crafted by highly skilled craftsman, we pay particular attention to the specific angle each sheet of carbon fiber is orientated. If carbon fibers move as little as 10° off their intended axis their strength properties can be reduced by 40% or more.

Vertical Flex  90 Degree Fibers

Allows for maximum energy transfer through the shaft to the head creating a powerful release.  A shafts vertical flex can be altered by manipulating the 90-degree fibers.

The 90-degree fibers are critical in shaft design to allow for impact durability from stick checks.  Additionally, 90-degree fibers reinforce the shafts “hoop strength” helping to manage the structural integrity of the sidewall while preventing dents.

Torsional Flex +/- 45 Degree Fibers

Provides incredible torsional stability, limiting twisting, for improved accuracy.

Lateral Flex  0 Degree Fibers

Zero degree fibers provide consistent flexural integrity along the length of the shaft, preventing the shaft from feeling like a “noodle” while passing and shooting.  The control of lateral flex helps keep the shaft from flexing side-to-side.
